MPC Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir sings from September through June at the 10:30 am Sunday services and at special services. The choir is comprised of Christians who love to sing.
Chancel Choir rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. An additional rehearsal is held on Sunday morning at 10:00 am prior to the regular 10:30 am service.
In keeping with the strongly held belief that music serves as an aid to worship, the MPC Music Ministry invites anyone who feels called to sing as part of their personal worship to become a part of the Chancel Choir. The members of the Choir are a widely divergent group with a variety of musical skill levels - while we have different amounts of musical training (ranging from none to a significant amount) and while we come from different backgrounds, we are united as a choir in the sense that we are here to make our very best contribution to the overall worship experience. All are welcome in the Chancel Choir - our doors are always open to new members!
While the emphasis is placed firmly on music rooted in the classical musical tradition, the Chancel Choir repertoire covers a broad range of musical influences and styles. The eclectic selections come from the well known and not so well know composition of such composers as Bach, Faure, Handel, Mozart, Schubert, and Schuetz. The Chancel Choir also performs works by 20th Century composers such as Bell, Gardner, Hughes, Thomas, Walker, and Whitbourn. The musical selections are prayerfully considered to help to deepen one's understanding of the liturgy, lectionary, and sermon for any given worship service. Who ever the composer and what ever the composition, one can be assured that the Chancel Choir works and voices truly augment one's worship experience.
The folks who make up the Chancel Choir are dedicated to their music and to having fun. Click on the "Star" to the left to read more about life in the Chancel Choir. Maybe you might want to be a part of this group.
